Rethinking wildfire risk: global and European innovations across the fire risk management continuum at EGU 2025

This year, FIRE-RES will participate at the European Geosciences Union General Assembly with a dedicated panel session named “Rethinking wildfire risk: global and European innovations across the fire risk management continuum” in Vienna and Online, from 27 April–2 May 2025 (exact date TBC).

Guided by the convener Maria Papathoma-Koehleand co-conveners Sven FuchsElsa Pastor FerrerPascale VaccaECSMaría Isabel Asensio and Claudia Berchtold , the conversation will explore the latest advancements in wildfire risk management with a focus on the wildland-urban interface (WUI). Embracing a variety of topics such as vulnerability and risk assessment methods, damage assessment approaches, local adaptation strategies, community and infrastructure resilience, public awareness and education, household self-assessment, disaster risk reduction tools and innovative technologies, the session will explore the multifaceted nature of wildfire risk management.

In this framework, the results from national (e.g. REVEAL), European (e.g. FIREPRIME, TREEADS, SILVANUS, FIRE-RES, FirEUrisk and Firelogue) and international efforts (USA, Canada etc.) will be illustrated and discussed.
