On October 25, 2024, the FIRE-RES “Preventive Forest Fire Fighting” workshop took place at the Tuscan Region AIB Training Centre in Monticiano, bringing together key stakeholders and experts to discuss innovative strategies in forest fire prevention. Organized by FIRE-RES partner CNR – Institute of Bioeconomy, in partnership with D.r.e.am. Italia and the Tuscany Region, the event highlighted the importance of proactive fire monitoring and risk management to protect forest ecosystems.
The morning session began with interventions on vital topics such as remote sensing for fire monitoring and the role of mechanisation in forest fire prevention. Participants gained insights from international experts, including professionals from Finland’s SeAMK University and the South-Ostrobothnia Rescue Service, who shared Nordic approaches to fire management.
A standout of the day was the hands-on demonstration showcasing firebreak widening with an advanced, versatile harvester, displaying adaptable technology with a processor that converts into a log grapple and shredder. This practical session offered forestry professionals a firsthand look at cutting-edge equipment designed to strengthen fire prevention efforts.
Accredited by the Order of Agronomists and Foresters of the Province of Siena, the workshop continued on October 26 with additional field demonstrations for forestry companies. The event was a success, both in stakeholder engagement and equipment performance, underscoring the shared commitment to safeguarding our forests through innovation and collaboration.
