XXVI IUFRO World Congress
June 23 - June 29
By 2050, drastic changes are expected in population growth, climate change, biodiversity loss, globalization and a growing world economy, putting tremendous pressure on forests and the societies who depend on them. The IUFRO World Congress in Stockholm 2024 aim to help to streamline forest research agendas, furthering dialogues and cross-sector cooperation, and promote the multi-functionality of forests and their services.
FIRE-RES will attend this unmissable event by coordinating one of the Technical Sessions falling under the Theme 1 “Strengthening forest resilience and adaptation to stress”.
The Session is titled “T1.16 Implementing fire-resilient landscapes” and will explore new methods and tools aimed at creating fire-resilient territories, which include forest management options, social and formal norms, economic mechanisms, advanced decision support technologies. Key questions to be addressed include how to maintain forest resilience, make society-forest-risk relations viable and affordable, and manage the provision and demand for ecosystem services like water, biodiversity, and wildfire nexus. The activity will include the following poster and technical sessions:
Monday, June 24, 12:30 – 01:15 PM (CEST) at Poster Stand 20
[Poster session 1] – T1.16 Emerging wildfire challenges and resilient landscape solutions, moderated by Marius Hauglin (NIBIO)
The poster session includes the inner session “Innovative technologies & socio-ecological-economic solutions for fire resilient territories in Europe (FIRE-RES project)” by Pau Brunet (CTFC)
Monday, June 24, 01:30 – 02:15 PM (CEST) at Poster Stand 20
[Poster session 2] – T1.16 Wildfire risk economics and governance, moderated by José G. Borges (ULisboa)

Tuesday June 25, 12:30 – 01:15 PM (CEST) at Poster Stand 20
[Poster session 3] – T1.16 Landscape modelling and fire ecology for wildfire resilience, moderated by Christophe Orazio (IEFC)
The poster session includes an inner session “Modeling Forest Fires, Enhancing Landscape Resilience, and Mitigating Stand Loss Risk: An Integrated Approach“ by Lucas Moreews (IEFC)
Thursday June 27, 08:30 – 10:30 AM (CEST) at Room I
