Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Chile, with over 40 years of academic experience. His research focuses on natural resource management, particularly forest management and logistics. A long-time consultant for the US Forest Service and the Chilean forest industry, his work has produced award-winning management tools recognized with the prestigious Edelman Award from INFORMS. In recent years, his research has centered on forest fire modeling and management, supported by major grants in Chile and Europe.
Felipe La Barra
Agricultural Engineer specializing in environmental management with a Master’s in Natural Resources. Expert in remote sensing, GIS, and AI applications for forestry, wildfires, drought, and climate change. He leads the data section at Fire2A and coordinates applied research projects focused on innovative wildfire solutions.
Prof. José Borges
PhD in Forest Sciences (University of Minnesota, USA). Associate Professor at ISA – ULisboa and Coordinator of IUFRO Unit 4.04.04 Landscape Management Planning for Multiple Ecosystem Services and the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master MEDFOR. Coordinator of the Adaptive Territorial Management work package in the FIRE-RES project and co-author of the Integrated Wildfire Risk Management Strategy for the EU. Author of over 120 peer-reviewed publications in forest and natural resources management.
Dr. Susete Marques
PhD in Forest Engineering (University of Lisbon). Assistant Researcher at the Forest Research Centre (CEF), ISA – ULisboa, and Coordinator of IUFRO Unit 3.04.01 Operations Systems Analysis and Modeling. Her work focuses on fire risk modeling, forest management planning, and multi-criteria optimization. She coordinates Task 2.3 Designing Resistant and Resilient Forested Landscapes within FIRE-RES and has co-authored over 39 international publications and 6 book chapters.
Sérgio Fernández
Holds a Master’s in Forest Sciences and Natural Resource Management (Universities of Padua and Lisbon) and is pursuing a PhD in Sustainable Land Use at ISA – ULisboa. His research explores participatory multi-criteria analysis and the integration of fire simulators into landscape management planning.
