On 18 December 2024, European experts and stakeholders gathered at the Madrid Planetarium for a roundtable discussion on wildfire management. Among the panellists, Pau Brunet (the CTFC) represented FIRE-RES and shared insights and expertise on innovative approaches to wildfire resilience.
This event, hosted by Airbus Defence and Space, brought together leaders from government, public agencies and the private sector. Set against the backdrop of increasing wildfire frequency and intensity exacerbated by climate change, the discussion aimed at understanding how to collectively prevent ecological disasters, protect communities and the environment from wildfires, and explore contributions to restore damaged ecosystems. The conversation touched upon themes such as prevention, detection, suppression, recovery and the transformative role of technology.
Pau Brunet highlighted the project’s integrated approach to fostering resilience across European landscapes. By focusing on cutting-edge solutions like drones, artificial intelligence and actionable data sharing, FIRE-RES stresses the need for a comprehensive strategy to mitigate wildfire risks. Airbus actively contributes as a project beneficiary and is currently responsible for the development of Innovation Action 5.6, dedicated tosimulating a fleet of High Altitude Pseudo Satellites deployed at the European stratosphere to capture data for multiple phases of wildfire management.
