We are thrilled to announce that FIRE-RES has been featured in the Horizon Europe Innovation Magazine article “Fighting fire with innovation: a pan-European push to tackle extreme wildfires”, a significant nod from one of the EU’s most respected science & innovation platforms.
Horizon is the European Commission’s open-access online magazine, published on behalf of the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation. It delivers the latest news, features, and breakthroughs from EU-funded research and innovation projects, and communicates the priorities, achievements, and societal relevance of EU-funded initiatives, making complex science understandable and impactful.
The article includes contributions by Asier Larrañaga Ochoa de Eguileor and Marc Castellnou, wildfire analysts at the Catalan Fire and Rescue Service, Dr. Antoni Trasobares, director of the Centre de Ciència i Tecnologia Forestal de Catalunya, Laia Estivill González, from the specialised wildfire GRAF team, and demonstrates that FIRE-RES goes far beyond firefighting. It promotes a holistic approach to wildfire resilience, integrating prevention, preparedness, response, recovery, and policy, while empowering communities and shaping a truly pan-European strategy.
The FIRE-RES project is coming to an end this year, but many ideas to transform all its outputs into a permanent knowledge and action hub are under discussion. We are especially proud to be featured on Horizon Magazine as we gear up for our Final Conference “Toward a Wildfire-Resilient Europe: From Knowledge to Policy Action”, taking place on 4 and 5 November 2025 in Brussels, Belgium. This is going to be a chance to showcase and discuss the project’s results, innovative approaches, and policy recommendations with researchers, community leaders, and decision-makers across Europe. Don’t miss your chance to join the conversation and contribute to Europe’s wildfire resilience path: registrations are open!
